RENTAL COMPACT GENSETS AT HALLEY RESEARCH STATION, ANTARCTIC BASE

Monday, March 11th, 2019

Two R165 Rental Compaqct Gensets have been installed at the Antarctic Survey Halley Research Station, explains Vicci Tanner, Area Sales Manager KOHLER-SDMO. Each 50HZ genset is diesel-fuelled and has a consumption rate of 14.03 gal/100mi from a 229.3 gallon fuel tank. Halley Research Station is based on the Brunt Ice Shelf and was established to study the Earth’s atmosphere. The current base is the sixth in a line of designs to overcome the challenges of building on a floating ice shelf where they become buried and crushed by snow. Despite moving the buildings 23km inland, concerns over the propagation of an ice crack resulted in the base being left unmanned for the winters of 2017 and 2018 and will be left unmanned for the winter of 2019.
