Siemens is making progress in the construction of an advanced plant for high- voltage direct current transmission in China. This facility has been designed to collect energy from several hydroelectric power plants arranged like a string of pearls on the Jinsha River, the upper course of the Yangtze.

The majority of these dams are still at the planning stage or under construction - such as the Jinanqaio hydroelectric power plant near the city of Lijiang. Construction teams have already completed the retaining structure and the four major water pipes which are core to the project.
